Instead of the planned Five Mile walk in Lorne, our Easter Saturday walk was based around a few of the local Aireys Inlet tracks.
Starting along Gilbert St we headed out across the heathland where we had fine views towards both Anglesea and back towards Aireys lighthouse. We admired the old wind shaped stringybark trees with open spaces beneath making an obvious shelter for kangaroos. A male Scarlet Robin posed happily for us on the top branch of one.
Morning tea was taken amongst these ancient trees.
Under the powerlines we found a number of Bearded Midge Orchids. Wandering down Whites Track we took a delightful meandering circuit through swathes of grasstrees. A few more Bearded Midge Orchids were seen along the edge of the path.
The Reindeer Lichen was looking impressive after the recent rain with some large patches of it to be seen.
We finished with lunch along Bubbs track overlooking the valley where we discovered a number of species of ants—in particular a few Toothless Bullants struggling to drag stones into their holes on the edge of the track. There were others building tall walls around their nests.
It was an enjoyable morning.
